A future full of opportunities.

As a Concordia University ABSN student, you will receive invaluable experiences in a variety of settings. As a result, you will graduate knowing how to care for the whole patient — mind, body and spirit — using the latest in evidence-based practice, and will be prepared to promote health, offer quality bed-side care, and provide leadership both within health care organizations and in the broader community.

Once you pass the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX) and become an RN, you will have many job opportunities awaiting you for a variety of reasons. Not only is the demand for nurses in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest higher than ever because of the growing health care needs of an aging baby boomer population and rise in chronic conditions. Your BSN degree will qualify you for a variety of job opportunities within the healthcare industry.

Our online nursing theory courses allow you to choose when and where you participate in class. If you’re a night owl, for example, you can watch an online demonstration or take a practice quiz at 11 p.m. while sitting on the couch in your pajamas. Our intuitive e-Learning platform allows you to:

  • Participate in simulated learning modules.
  • Complete and/or upload course assignments.
  • Interact with other students via a discussion forum.
  • Join scheduled chat sessions with instructors.
  • Stay organized via the calendar management function.

Our new state-of-the-art nursing skills and simulation laboratory allows you to develop your core nursing techniques using advanced medical equipment, including two types of high-tech medical manikins: A task trainer, for learning such skills as injections, and a high-fidelity human patient simulator.

Working alongside your instructors, you can expect to:

  • Participate in hands-on learning strategies similar to clinical experiences.
  • Apply basic skills such as checking vital signs and monitoring blood pressure.
  • Practice responding to acute and critical events in a safe, controlled environment.
  • Evaluate different patient-care scenarios and administer proper treatment.
  • Learn from mistakes and effectively correct them under faculty supervision.
  • Experience scenarios that focus on understanding team collaboration.

During your clinical rotations, you will work alongside experienced nurses in advanced health care settings and assist them in providing patient care. You can expect to gain diverse nursing experiences in areas that may include:

  • Adult Health
  • Mental Health
  • Behavioral Health
  • Community Health
  • Public Health
  • Obstetrics
  • Pediatrics
  • Intensive Care
  • Acute Care
  • Long-term Care

All I had was a piece of paper to represent myself and my desire to become a nurse,” says Stephanie. “I had the grades. I had the heart for it. I just needed someone to give me a chance.
